Godfrey M. Simpson is passionately concerned with the waste created by modern society and in a humble way
is striving to preserve and utilize discarded artifacts, paneling, turnings, fixtures, knobs, carvings
and the list goes on... all orphans of past eras, to create a new from humble beginnings. Homeless,
rejected, and disregarded. Ofttime dropped off in the lower depths of wasteland. Furniture Artist Godfrey M.
Simpson rediscovers the abandoned Orphaned furniture and artifacts, and like a New Age Paddler, with well
crafted treatment and rehabilitation, brings new life, a new cycle, a rebirth to a homespun elegance with a
classical built in standard of quality, design, balance and colour. Godfrey seems to have a number of
guiding principles in his design and creation. One of these being that by creating furniture with the
discarded pieces he collects, always choosen for their shape theatricality, and integrity, he can in some
way preserve a part of history and transform shapes, woods and even designs that would have otherwise been
lost forever. So in a way it has to be said that Godfrey Simpson is a bit like his work, from humble
beginnings in Northern England where he actually owned Thurland Castle, to the quiet deck of his sailboat
gazing across an ocean as the sun lays to rest, his character and self worth have been pieced together
much like the antiques he has worked with. From different eras, materials, and designs. From exotic lands,
people, and surroundings. All combined, fitted to form into well made cherished treasures.
